What is membership?

image with text "Get Connected"

Everyone who comes to a Recovery meeting is considered a valuable part of the group. Most people who attend and feel that Dr. Low's method has made a major difference in their lives choose to become paying members.
It is not necessary to pay annual dues to take part in Recovery's weekly meetings, however, becoming a member does offer rewards and benefits.

Why We Became Members

"I wanted to support Recovery's good works and show appreciation for the difference it has made in my life."
- Joe from Wisconsin
"It was my way of indicating loyalty and gratitude. As a paid member, I'm reminded of Recovery practice by reading articles and cartoons in The Recovery Reporter."
- Dorothy from Michigan
"After two years of attending meetings, I learned how to handle my everyday irritations. It was a bonus. I can't even think of where I would be at this time of my life if it were not for Recovery. I thank Recovery in a small way by renewing my membership every year."
- Marjorie from Maryland
"By becoming a member, I gained greater knowledge by knowing that there are so many people like myself."
- John from Minnesota

Benefits of Membership

The Recovery Reporter

Members receive a bi-monthly publication called The Recovery Reporter. This publication is a personal way for members to stay connected and share with the following:

  • Examples of the Recovery method
  • Personal stories from Recovery members throughout North America and abroad
  • Excerpts from Dr. Low's lectures
  • Updates on the organization's activities
  • Information on national mental health events.
A Sense of Belonging

Many people feel that by becoming a paying Recovery, Inc. member they are 'more connected' to others in the group. It also makes them a contributing part of the organization- they are helping to make the Method available to others in need.

Long-Term Goals

Making a commitment to continued mental health is a life long goal, not just something you do for a short time. Membership can help remind you of that commitment.

Putting your dues to work

Your annual dues go a long way to helping Recovery carry out its mission...to preserve the Method developed by Dr. Low and make it available to those who need it. Your dues help to pay for the following:

Leadership Training

Training is ongoing and takes place all over North America and abroad. Volunteer leaders, who practice the Recovery Method and have been trained in group leadership, are the backbone of our organization.

The Ability to Be Self-Supporting

You can feel a sense of pride knowing your dues help Recovery, Inc. meet the goal of being self-supporting. Your
dues help pay for the materials and postage for sending information to people who are suffering, the phone service which lets people know where they can go for help and much more. With paid membership, you are helping to support the services upon which the Recovery program depends.

Ensuring Recovery's Future

Your annual dues help ensure that Dr. Low's Method will be available to others in years to come.

Two years ago I started attending Recovery meetings. It was plain from the start, this was for me. Regular attendance and constant reading of Dr. Low's writing, quickly lessened my major fears and symptoms.

With waiting, I was confident I'd achieve "nervous person" status. But this didn't happen. Something was holding me back. Why the hesitancy to give examples? Why was it an effort to spot? I'm not timid by nature. My friends say I have an outgoing personality.

The feeling of a slight inner disturbance at Recovery meetings was puzzling, then annoying. And then came a return of old symptoms, processing, discouragement, etc.

Quite unexpectedly, the answer came. How well I remember the Recovery meting on January 3, I was moved by my leader's plea about the importance of paid membership to help carry on Recovery's good work. Recovery's benefits were not just for a few years, but for the rest of our lives

I became a paid member that night! And then something unbelievable happened. During mutual aid, I had a sense of belonging. Now I am part of this wonderful organization, helping to spread Dr. Low's method to thousands in need of help.
